Large Dividers
This set of dividers was made to lay out pieces using systems of proportion. Many European and American antiques were made using only one or two dimensions, with the rest being proportioned from them. This allowed sophisticated designs to be accurately adapted by marginally literate craftsmen. The finish on the quadrant uses a lacquer technique borrowed from electric guitar manufacturing and the brass hardware is all shop made.
Maple, ebony, brass and lacquer.
23” High
