Chess Set

This chess set and board were designed by Michael and 12th Avenue Iron from a concept and parameters provided by the client. The board is held together by intersecting bronze rods and is made from end grain-blocks of Douglas fir and mesquite. It is designed to accommodate the movement and tension created by such dissimilar woods being used together. The pieces are all lathe turned and weighted, and are stored in a pair of fitted fir boxes with end-grain mesquite lid panels.
